About Us
The NASFL was created by former legislators who desire to stay engaged and continue serving our states and our nation in a special way. Each of us took an oath to support and defend both our state and federal constitutions. That honor brings with it responsibility, and opportunity.
Former state legislators are uniquely positioned to defend the system of government our Constitution established: balanced federalism, where state sovereignty works to promote representative governance.
The NAFSL is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and nonpartisan organization. After just a few years in operation, the NAFSL has become the largest network of former state legislators in the country.
Our Mission
The mission of the NAFSL is to recruit former state legislators for membership and networking opportunities, and equip them with the resources needed to effectively connect with elected state legislators on constitutional federalism and strategies to check and balance the encroachment of the national government on state sovereignty.
Board of Trustees
The board of the National Association of Former State Legislators is a dedicated team of former state legislators. Our trustees bring a wealth of experience and expertise to NAFSL, guiding us in our mission of empowering and supporting former state legislators in their continued contributions to public service.
